Subject: [Publib] Online Mail Services
Greetings Colleagues,
I have been reading the digests for several months now and have found this list to be extremely useful. I am writing today to ask if anyone has any experience with online mail services that they would be willing to share. I am aware of Endicia and Stamps.com as alternatives and wonder if anyone can recommend either or another service that they are happy with.
I am the director of a small rural library system in Trinity County, California. Since the County does not provide mail services, library staff takes the mail to the courthouse where the Pitney Bowes machine resides, affixes appropriate postage to the letter or ILL package and then drives the mail to the Post Office. Although distances are not great, it is time consuming physically moving the mail around more than once.
Many years ago, the USPS offered a Liberty Card that served as a debit card and made mailing easy for us. Since the card was discontinued, we have grown to dislike the chore of dragging mail around, dealing with parking issues at the courthouse and sometimes surly county employees who are unwilling to take the time to replenish the supplies to the Pitney Bowes machine. I am looking for online mailing alternatives that would allow us to bypass the county and to prepare our mail in-house. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.
