LIBRARY SYSTEM DIRECTOR

 

Due to retirement, the Wisconsin Valley Library Service (WVLS), a seven-county northcentral Wisconsin federated library system headquartered in Wausau (WI), is seeking a system Director.  Under general direction of a 15-member Board of Trustees, the WVLS Director exercises the day-to-day administrative responsibilities of the system. Briefly, WVLS  .

  a.. Was established in 1961.
  b.. Operates out of offices in downtown Wausau.
  c.. Provides basic services to 25 public libraries at 36 locations.  Service is also provided to libraries at all public and parochial schools, as well as to academic, technical and special libraries in the counties of Clark, Forest, Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Oneida and Taylor.
  d.. Has a staff of 10.5 FTEs.
  e.. Has a 2007 population of approximately 280,000 and a 2007 budget of $1,049,374.
  f.. Oversees operation of a 23-member (Horizon-based) shared automation system known as V-Cat.
 

REQUIREMENTS

To be seriously considered, an applicant must:

  a.. Possess an ALA accredited MLS, have at least eight years of professional level library experience (including at least five years in a major administrative position) and be eligible for a Grade I Library Director Certification issued by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
  b.. Possess strong communication, organizational, public relations and supervisory skills.
  c.. Have experience with budgets, planning, grant-writing, administration, and library-related technologies.
  d.. Provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  e.. Have a valid driver's license, and the ability to travel independently.  This position requires a personal automobile.
 

COMPENSATION

Beginning salary range:  $55,000 to $60,000 depending on experience and qualifications.  Excellent benefits package includes: insurance (health, dental and life), employer-paid retirement, paid sick days, paid holidays, 20 days vacation, 6 days of personal leave, and an opportunity to participate in the Wisconsin Deferred Compensation Program.

 

STARTING DATE

Position will be available October 1, 2007 but initial employment date is negotiable beyond 10/1/07.
