[Publib] Barcode scanners

Does anyone use barcode scanners that work like the ones in the grocery
store do?  Our scanners are either the hand-held ones that produce a
beam that reads the barcode or a wedge device through which the customer
has to slide their card.  We use the library card barcode to book time
on computers, print and pay for computer printouts, check out materials
on self check machines, etc.

 

We want to know if there are other types of scanners out there and
whether anyone can recommend them.  I'd also like to find out where you
got them and if they were very expensive.
