Hi all,

My two-floor branch has the circ desk on the main floor and the
reference desk on the lower floor. The majority of staff members working
after 5 p.m. are on the main floor, with only a couple downstairs. We
have a catch phrase that alerts others on staff when there is a problem
or potential problem at one of our service desks: all staff know that,
if they get a call from a colleague who uses the phrase, the colleague
is asking for backup/assistance/security. (Used at our main branch, it
means "I need a security guard, NOW.")

The phrase is "I have a package/parcel for you," as in, "Hi, it's Mary
at the reference desk; I have a package for you down here." Sounds
innocent to the customer, conceivably could be used during/following a
customer tirade ("Please excuse me for just a moment; I have to make
this call..."), and lets others know there's a situation going on.

For the record, we also have a silent alarm panic button at the
reference desk that connects directly to City security services.

Cheers,

Adrienne
