Many of our member libraries are in small communities and much of the
time have only one person working. At one time a director was concerned
about a rather strange person hanging around. In addition to talking to
the police about him I suggested she ask a neighboring business that was
open at the same times as the library if they would take the 'bell' end
of a wireless doorbell unit so she could ring them if there was a
problem.

Subject: [Publib] Library staff safety/panic button
After a recent incident where a staff member was cornered by a
delusional customer, I need to come up with some way to give staff a
"panic button" to use to call for help should they need it. Do other
libraries use anything like this? What can you recommend? We have a
two story building with children's and reference on the second floor,
often "womaned" by one staff person per wing. The circulation desk is
on the first floor.
Thanks for your ideas.
