Oh, no! I'm not getting rid of VHS tapes until either: (1)the information
contained on them is outdated, or (2) they're returned broken or otherwise
unusable.
We have some classic films on VHS that have circulated over 120 times, and
they're still going! (Of course, unlike the DVD surface, the tape is
protected inside the case, which makes a difference.) Considering the wear
and tear on our classic films on DVD I've seen so far, these will be lucky
to circulate half that. When I was buying videos, never was there a time
when patrons said a new or relatively new video wouldn't play or whatever.
You'd be surprised how many times a DVD checked out only a few times goes
strange and will stop while being played and start over at the beginning
again. This has happened a lot, and there's absolutely nothing that can be
done about it, even running then through our buffer.
