It means a great deal. Remember, nearly all of what ALA does is non-binding; the organization's work is mainly through influencing and making strong arguments. This APA work is just another case. Nothing we do can force anybody to do anything. The goal is to influence the library world. Remember this: the Gettysburg Address was merely "lip service." This statement shows where we stand and where we want to go; it is also a foundation for more of the same thing. Come along--this is going to be a long project.
