[Publib] Weekend Shifts

I am professional staff, and I do one Saturday each month, as well as an
evening every week. I also work five Sundays from Oct-April. My boss, the
Adult Services Librarian, works an evening per week as well as Sundays.
Other professional staff in our system work weekends, evenings and Sundays.
My position is non-exempt, so I take time off during the week to compensate
for weekend hours and come in at 11:45 (we're open till 8:00 and are paid
until 8:15) to compensate for the evening. I have never really minded it.
When we work Saturdays, we typically take the following Friday off, so you
get a three-day weekend every month.

It works for us.

Subject: [Publib] Weekend Shifts

The recent discussion of premium pay for working certain hours got me
thinking - at your libraries, are the professional level staff,
librarians, directors, managers, etc., regularly scheduled to staff
the library on evenings and weekends? Or are these shifts typically
assigned to your support staff and paraprofessionals?

At my library (medium sized public), all staff including librarians
and supervisors are scheduled for regular night and weekend shifts
with the exception of our technical services dept. staff and the
Library Director.
