We regularly respond to email reference queries. Many of our email queries
come from folks interested in our extensive genealogical holdings in the
Stewart Bell Archives. These folks contact us from all over the United
States and from abroad as well.
We also answer many other types of questions, from queries on renewing
materials to policy questions to other research questions. I see nothing but
benefit from email reference. While we like to see patrons in person, if we
can save someone a car trip, it benefits the environment and saves the
patron time.

Subject: [Publib] response to reference queries via email
Hello,
I wonder if your library encouragese, allows, or has a policy
regarding emailing patrons who want responses to reference queries via
email. I know that some patrons are very grateful for email
responses. Do you see any problems with this? benefits of this?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
Regards,
