I haven't read the book so I can't make any judgment on whether it deserves the award, but I can make a comment on judging a book's value by the presence of one word.  When I was a youngun', eight or nine years old, I had my mother rather flustered one night when I innocently chirped out "Mom, what's circumcision?"  After she gulped several times she asked me where I had come across that word.  "The Bible." I doubt most of those horrified by the word scrotum would want to ban the Bible from our libraries.
