I de-lurk, on a Friday afternoon, just long enough to share a portion of the letter I emailed to the New York Times following its February 18th article about the Higher Power of Lucky brouhaha:
 
 

Meredith Willson got it more right than he knew in The Music Man, with the booming pronouncements of chief prude Eulalie Mackechnie Shinn, referring to Marian (the librarian) Paroo: "Professor, that woman advocates dirty books! Chaucer! Rabelais!! BAL-zac!!!" (Pun absolutely intended.)
