Yes!  It is completely normal for children to have questions about
sex, anatomy, etc., regardless of what inspires the questions.  If
those questions are answered directly and calmly, the child will take
in as much information as s/he is ready for, and discard the rest.
But, if children see adults anxiously debating whether or not
something is appropriate, or whether a word will have a corrupting
influence (!) you can bet that they will do everything they can to
learn and use this 'bad' word that adults find so powerful and
captivating.

This is because we live in a society that somehow manages to
simultaneously be hypersexual and Puritanical.  But, instead of being
upset about what *that* does to our children, we get mad about the
book that brings it to our attention.
