John and all,

My Grandather used to say that something had 'bit him on the balls"
when something bad happened. I don't think I was too badly impacted by
that phrase. I was about 8 or so when I first heard it.

What's wrong with telling an inquisitive reader that the word is in the
dictionary and they can look it up. Give them dictionary practice,
don't ya know.

The thought of a snake biting a dog's scrotum is too painful for me.
I
don't know why, for sure, but I have this, er, funny feeling. I
suppose
that working the "s" word into the first page of a book is a way to
get
people's attention--not to mention the attention of those who hand out
Famous Awards. What next? Gonads? Cajones??

Personally, I look forward to the day when someone finally addresses,
in
children's literature, that misunderstood and underpublicized
phenomenon, i.e., people who cook and eat their own placenta, as a
component of the post-partum "experience." The first page will not be
enough for me--I want to see it in the title and on the front cover.
O!
but the possibilities are endless.

Life gets weirder every day. TGIF. (Not to mention the fact that
it's
the day after George Birthington's Washday. Anybody have cherry pie
on
February 22? I would've baked one, but I was too busy worrying about
that poor dog....)
