Thank you to everyone who helped me on my query. For those authors we
have in our collection I have included them on our Read-A-Likes page.

You might also try Douglas Hirt, a Colorado author with over 30 westerns
to his credit.

Possible authors (and I discussed these with my mother who is a big
L'Amour fan--though she also reads very widely indeed):

Frederick Chiaventone
Don Coldsmith (Spanish Bit Saga)--this is my number 1 recommendation
Terry C. Johnston
Douglas C. Jones (especially the Hasford Family Saga)
Elmer Kelton
Larry McMurty
Howard Frank Mosler.

Out of the western genre, many L'Amour readers enjoy Tony Hillerman's
books very much. There is a similarity in style and setting, though not
in plot. (My grandfather loved both writers, though perhaps he was fond
of Tony Hillerman because they were both born in Sacred Heart, Oklahoma,
just a few years apart.)
