This is a message that I've posted to PUBLIB in the past ; it still
stands true.
Our library went to a brand new system to prevent theft. We purchased
several stackable 18" square disc retrieval system boxes. They are
lightweight, and very easy to use. They each hold up to 150 CD's, and
we just marked them A, B, C, D, etc, with the corresponding number on
the front cover of the DVD case, like B127, C65. We pulled small
sections DVDs off the shelf, marked the covers, and inserted the titles
into the appropriate slot. This way all titles were always available for
checkout. We just plugged away at it until we got them all done. This
unit can be used with your computer--you scan in a number and out pops
the DVD, or, you just punch the number in manually and it spits it out.
We just started using it last week, and everyone really likes it.
It's called a DVD/CD Automatic Storage Dispenser, and is available at
the
Specialty Store Services website. I think you can stack up 6 or 7 of
them.
