Many of us had the same childhood.

My dad wanted me to be a real homemaker - I was born in 1950. I remember he
gave me a little sewing machine that really did sew. I took out the thread
and used it to perforate my forms. They included past due notices for the
materials I checked out to my cousins. 

Oh look, Now I'm in library administration.
