[Publib] Tab/Scholastic personal reminiscence

Oh, I have to chime in and add a couple of my all-time favorites that I
bought at my elementary school's Scholastic book fair: Vicky and the Black
Horse by Sam Savitt and the Marguerite Henry books. I think I bought
Scholastic editions of almost every one of Margeuite Henry's books: all of
the Misty books, King of the wind, Justin Morgan had a horse, and probably
others whose titles I don't recall at the moment. Can you tell I was a
horse-crazed kid? I read them all to tatters. On a related note, I think I
was about the 10th or 12th consecutive patron for our library's copy of Pony
care by Jean Cabell Self.
Oh, the days...

I do! I do!
The first science fiction book I recall reading, Robert Silverberg's
Revolt on Alpha C, was obtained through that program. Alexander Key's The
Forgotten Door was another one. I don't recall those reading cards, but
since my grandmother read to me when I was really small, I was reading
fairly early and annoying the socks off our 14-year-old family friend when I
would finish her 9th grade spelling words at six. They had to kick me up
into the chapter books section, though. I was out to read the entire
contents of the primary kids' library.
A science fiction selector in the making, I guess.
