This article was published in a Seattle alternative newspaper in June 2004, about the time the Seattle Central Library opened.  It still cracks me up:

  I found the children's area to be quite interesting.  Wood floors, glass walls, concrete beams and (I think) ceiling....A friend who is a children's librarian there (to remain nameless so her she doesn't incur the ire of the City Librarian) says it can be increbibly noisy there; nothing to absorb the sound.
