POSITION TITLE:  Adult Services Paraprofessional  (union)
APPLICATION PERIOD: 

LOCATION: Kentwood Branch
Beginning: December 28, 2007

RATE: $14.59/hr       20 hrs/wk
Closing Date: January 11, 2008

 

DUTIES:  Provides reference and information services to library patrons.
Assists patrons in their search for library materials.  Provides
reader's advisory and reference interview services as needed.  Maintains
the collection including the shifting of books, discarding of materials,
requesting of replacement materials, evaluating donated materials, and
displaying of new or seasonal materials.  Participates in the review and
selection of materials based on patron interests and information needs.
Instructs and assists Library staff and patrons in basic technical
support, maintenance and troubleshooting in the use of various
technology equipment and software.  Assists in the planning, organizing
and implementing of Library programs and special projects that meet the
adult population needs.  Provides training and guidance to clerical
staff and volunteers.  Participates in the formation, development, and
implementation of goals and action plans.  Pursues professional
development by serving on KDL committees, and attending meetings,
workshops and conferences.  Participates in professional organizations.
Provides circulation services, as operations require.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Bachelor's degree.  Ability
to travel between work locations and related places of business as
needed.  Considerable knowledge of available circulating materials and
basic reference sources.  Interpersonal and communication skills
necessary to interact with staff and patrons in an effective and
courteous manner.  Analytical ability to maintain accurate statistics.
Visual acuity and physical skills necessary to retrieve library
materials from shelves and storage areas, maintain library materials and
operate equipment.  The incumbent is required to have the physical
ability to push/pull fully loaded book carts and lift/carry materials
weighing up to 40 pounds.  Hearing ability to answer telephone and
patron inquiries.  Ability to operate a variety of library equipment
including a computer, cash register, fax and copy machine. 

 

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Some course work in Library
Science and one year of professional library work experience is
preferred. 

 

HOURS AND LOCATION: KDL provides library services to our local
communities seven days per week. All positions will require some evening
and weekend hours, including Sundays.  While this position is currently
assigned at the above location, KDL reserves the right to require all
employees to be available for assignments at any KDL location.
