[Publib] compensation for librarian-run book groups/programs?

I am curious as to how or if librarians are compensated for running 
book groups or other library programs outside of their day to day 
schedule.
Do you get a flat fee? Compensatory time? or a bagful of Maslow's 
higher needs - which may feel good but don't help make the car payment.
