[Publib] circulating current issues of magazines

Hi Nancy,
We recently made a decision to start circulating all magazines for one
week, no renewal. I attended the annual IL Library Association
Conference and was at a session where the presenter mentioned doing
this. It struck a chord with several of us- Plainfield IL's director was
at the same session and they are also going to start circulating the new
issues, as Lisa P posted. I was surprised that my staff embraced this. I
have not spoken directly with patrons but have noticed quite a few of
the new issues are checked out and we just started it Dec. 1. The Circ
Manager opted to put signs up that say "Current issue of "x" magazine is
checked out".

Good luck with your decision. We are calling this a trial but I don't
see us going back.

Mary

Thanks to John Richmond's excellent thoughts on circulating current
issues of magazines...is any other library doing this? What was the
patron response? We now circulate quarterlies and bimonthlies but I'd
like to make life easier and circulate all of them, including the weekly
news magazines. Would love to hear all the pros and cons...Thanks!
