[Publib] Development of a Strategic Plan for smaller libraries

My library board was wondering about libraries having gone through the
strategic planning process. Our library service population of approximately
1,400. We would like responses from similar size/rural libraries if possible.
If your library has done this, the board members would like to know:
 
What pitfalls did you encounter?
What positive outcomes happened?
What type of people did you have on your committee (what segments of your
community did they represent)?
What were your thoughts on the entire process?
Any suggestions for anyone embarking on this venture?
