Greetings,

December 1-7 is Digital Television (DTV) Transition Week in America's
libraries. This effort, which is a collaboration between ALA and the
Federal Communications Commission, is designed to raise public awareness
of the switch from analog to digital broadcast that is taking place on
February 17, 2009.

Public libraries across the country will be working with FCC officials
to organize public meetings to explain the transition and the federal
government's coupon program that can help defray the cost of digital
television converter boxes for those who rely on over-the-air broadcast.

If your public library is not working with the FCC to organize an event,
you can still be part of DTV Transition Week! Visit ala.org/dtv this
week for new podcasts explaining the transition, resources like flyers
and presentations you and your library staff can use to educate the
public, and more information on how to help library patrons with
questions about the DTV transition.

If you have questions or comments about DTV or this project, please
contact ALA Washington Office staffers Andy Bridges
(abridges at alawash.org) or Carrie Lowe (clowe at alawash.org)
