[Publib] Chinese-English Dictionaries

Attention PubLib Sinophiles

As a language major, it wounds me to admit near total ignorance of a major world language, but...

As we start to build our Chinese language collection we have been dismayed to find that the (aged) Chinese dictionary in our catalog has gone a-wandering. We therefore need to purchase a good Chinese-English English-Chinese dictionary for our reference collection. Ideally this would show the Chinese words in Chinese characters (naturally), with a pinyin transliteration. There seems to be a preference locally for traditional characters (I realise this may not sit well with pinyin), but we will go with simplified if we must.

Can anyone recommend a good dictionary of this type? I realise it may be costly. At the same time we would like to purchase a couple of copies of a reliable smaller format C-E, E-C dictionary for checkout - any thoughts about a suitable edition?

Thanks in advance for your wisdom.
