Greetings,

Lesley has stated that she is able to train male
coffee drinking chimps to use the III circulation
module. Yet, she is NOT able to train otherwise
an intelligent potential staffer:

"who doesn't genuinely enjoy other people to smile graciously at the older
gentlemen who call her "sweetie," to remember that Mrs. J. always wants to
know when the new James Patterson when will be available, to look and talk
to the child with the homework problem instead of the parent who tries to
take over the reference interview, to tell the difference between Mr. K who
likes to bluster and blow off steam but will eventually pay his fines, and
Mr. R who should never be approached without a senior staff member present,
and so on..."

For some reason, I do not find it very difficult to
impart any of the above information to an otherwise
intelligent person. And, I had no problem learning III
fifteen years ago when Brown migrated from CLSI.
Could it be because I drink coffee and have so much in
common with chimps?

I do think that our opposable thumbs work better than most
chimps and the prefrontal cortex
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prefrontal_cortex> gives us some distinct
advantages - the power of imagination. Visualize
how you will "smile graciously when the older gentlemen"
call you "sweetie".

Nah, it has nothing to do with my teaching skills; I give all credit to III
for their excellent program design.

A "semi-sentient chimp" is one who has not yet had his morning coffee.
