[Publib] How do you correct a coworker giving incorrect
information?

I've been asked the following question at more than one interview during my
career:
"You overhear a coworker giving incorrect information to a patron. How do
you respond?"
I'd like to hear how PubLib-ers respond to this question, and if there is a
"perfect" answer to this question.
Thanks.
I keep thinking about this question and this morning another point popped in
my head, which is that the question itself is very revealing of the library.
It suggests this (extremely common) situation has not been addressed through
policy, practice, example, and education but is an issue each librarian will
have to struggle through individually and in an ad hoc manner. Just kind of
an interesting thought.
One pragmatic response to the question (and one that could be very valuable
in assessing the organization) is "What is the library's practice regarding
these situations?" Or split the difference and say, "My practice elsewhere
has been to do X, but I'm interested in your library's guidance in this
matter, since it differs so widely from library to library." (And for an
extra Eddie Haskell moment, you could add "What an excellent question this
is!")
Interviews being two-way streets, after all... and organizational cultures
being quite different. I'm usually very alert in interviews to whatever
hints, signs, etc. I can glean about how things really work, once everyone
isn't sitting around in their Sunday best.
