It is my understanding the Burns' The War covers the experiences of people
from four (4) municipalities in the United States. This would be a tiny
if not negligible portion of Americans who served during World War II, let
alone from the rest of the world. Besides Latinos among American
servicemen, a treatment covering just four (4) "quintessentially American
towns" would miss the Battle for Britain, the French resistance, the
puppet state in Manchuria, and many other topics. Obviously The War isn't
meant to be comprehensive.
