[Publib] Dragon Naturally Speaking software

We had Dragon installed on a few of our public computers - but there
were a few difficulties - so we pulled it off. For one thing, any
background noise interfered with the program "understanding" the words
of the speaker - so, in a public place, it is very difficult to get it
quiet enough. Also, for Dragon to work for a specific patron, the patron
has to "train" the computer to know his/her voice and this takes many,
many sessions of sitting at the computer and reading into the
microphone. Also, we had a few problems with patrons "training" one
computer and then later wanting to use Dragon at another computer. Their
profile would not transfer over - we even tried saving a profile on a
disk and then taking the disk to another computer with Dragon installed.
Unfortunately, that didn't work.
We did keep the program - but more for the purpose of if the patron is
thinking of purchasing the software for a home computer and wants to see
what it is like.
It is a very COOL program and for one user on one computer. But, in a
public setting with multiple users, this is not the best choice.
I haven't found anything like it than can be easily used in a public
setting with multiple users, so, I would also love to hear if there are
any. I wonder if all voice-generated programs need the "training" time
with Dragon.

Subject: [Publib] Dragon Naturally Speaking software
Good afternoon everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has installed Dragon Naturally Speaking
software on their public access computers. We are moving into a new
facility and we are considering installing this on some of our public
computers. If you have installed it I would be interested in your
results and/or opinions. If not Dragon Naturally Speaking software then
is something else out there that you have used and could recommend.
Thanks for all of your assistance we really appreciate.
