The Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is pleased to announce the following continuing education/non-credit course: 

Elements of Technology Management:  Cost Centers and Services (ALA-APA approved for CPLA candidates)
Dates: September 12 - October 17, 2007
Times: Online synchronous sessions Wednesdays 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. Central time 
Cost: $300 
Instructor: Joyce Latham, Ph.D., Executive Director Onondaga County Public Library

Intended audience:  Librarians and information professionals needing training in the management of technology resources; CPLA program candidates

Purpose of the course: To empower library managers in the identification and support of appropriate technological strategies for the delivery of informational and cultural services to a diverse general public.  Participants will become familiar with technology cost centers, essential technical services and emerging influences on services delivery.  Participants will:  Develop an understanding of the basic concepts and terminology of information and communications technology (ICT) structures; Recognize essential staff and patron ICT requirements; Identify appropriate skills for library staff to function as technical liaisons; Develop an understanding of appropriate use of the Web, including in-house content development; Provide knowledgeable supervision of the development of institutional and extra-institutional ICT strategies; Develop analytical skills for effective technology administration.
