Diedre:
I would suggest talking to the staff persons at the work stations where the individual would be working and ask what kinds of issues arrise on a regular basis. For example: A patron comes to the desk and is informed that they have a book overdue and claims that they had returned the book two weeks ago. After checking the shelves and discussing library policy with her/him, she/he still maintains that the book was returned and demands to discuss tne matter with the next highest person in authority. --- Have this be the hypothetical situation facing the person who may face the ire of the irate patron. What does she/he say and why?
James B. Casey --- my own views.
Director of Oak Lawn Public Library
ALA Council Member -- Candidate for re-election.

Subject: [Publib] Problem-solving Interview Question
I don't seem to have a good interview question that might help demonstrate a candidates ability to think through the issues involved with a problem and develop possible solutions. Any suggestions?
