LIBRARY DIRECTOR - PALATINE (IL) PUBLIC LIBRARY DISTRICT

The Palatine Public Library District, located in the northwest suburban
Chicago area, is seeking an adept and innovative leader with demonstrably
strong strategic planning and financial management skills and a record of
enhancing public library services through dedication to the development of
collections, facilities, technology, and human resources.  The new director
will be able to cultivate, articulate, and champion the Library’s vision
with the board, staff, and community it serves.

Governed by an elected seven-member board, the District serves a supportive
community of 89,950 residents with a 96,000 sq. ft. main library, two branch
libraries, and a bookmobile.  With a collection of nearly 400,000 items, an
operating budget of over $5 million, and a dedicated staff (74 FTE), the
Library circulates 1,725,544 items annually, utilizing a Millennium
automation system by Innovative Interfaces, Inc.  The Palatine Public
Library District is a member of the renowned North Suburban Library System
in Illinois and has been designated a “Top Ten American Library” in the
HAPLR Index in its population category for the last 6 years.  Please visit

Specific requirements include an ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library
Science; a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible public library
experience; five years of successful executive level administrative
experience; preferably three years of experience as a Library Director
reporting to a governing board; responsibility for planning and meeting
budgetary requirements; an understanding of the potentials of technology in
the delivery of library services; personal integrity; and commitment to
intellectual freedom.

The salary range is $90,000 - $115,000, commensurate with experience, with a
