[Publib] Changing Formats in the AV section

Hi Stephanie,

We introduced dvds several years ago into our collection and we did that
without getting rid of our vhs tapes. We stopped purchasing vhs & are
only purchasing the dvd format. We are also letting our vhs tapes die a
slow and natural death. We delete the vhs if the tape is broken, if 2
customers complain about tape quality, if our vhs tape cleaning machine
gives the tape a C rating, and, of course, if the tape no longer
circulates. We didn't want to get rid of the vhs tapes all at once
because so many people still have vcr players. We simply made a
separate collection for dvds.

I hope this helps.

Tina

Subject: [Publib] Changing Formats in the AV section

I am a library student looking into the details about how to change film
formats (like VHS to DVD) in a public library. I am asking if anyone
has an advice about the change, and if anyone has any experience in this
field? I am especially interested in the process, whether it should be
done all at once (which could result in a nervous breakdown on the
staff's end), or phased in over a couple of years?
Any help would be appreciated!
