Below is a list of some of the places I found for someone else looking for ways to prevent damage from skateboards. These of course infuriate skateboarders and there is some action being taken by some skateboarders to remove these devises. Do a search on anything like skate stoppers, anti-skateboard, etc. and you will find many a blog on the subject.

Below is the original message I sent to another library group.

=============

Some time ago I meant to send you sites that have the devises that discourage skateboarding in some areas. Believe it or not, I actually will advocate for skateboarders most of the time but I do think that they should not be damaging property.

Here are some places to look:

Skate Stoppers: http://www.skatestoppers.com/index.html Look at Architectural Series: http://www.skatestoppers.com/AS_Series.htm There are many types at this site but it takes lots of clicking to find them all. Many of the other companies refer back to this one.

Grinder Minders: http://www.grind2ahalt.com/ (Check under applications to see picture of use on a handrail. I think metal benches can also use this kind of device.)

Ravensforge Skateboard Solutions:  http://skateblock.com/

Barrett Robinson Skate Stoppers: http://www.barrettrobinson.com/SkateStoppers.htm (I think these are the same as Skate Stoppers listed above but shows more designs and applications - not just concrete.)

Flextec Rubber Surfaces:  http://www.flexitec.com.au/skatestoppers.htm

SpecialPaving.com:  http://www.specialpaving.com/asboard.html

Leisure Craft Inc.: http://www.leisurecraftinc.com/index.htm and specifically: http://www.leisurecraftinc.com/product/SBT3.htm (shows clips on metal benches)

Palladio : http://www.palladiostone.com/index.htm Click on each item listed here to see the designs: http://www.palladiostone.com/skateboard.htm

I'm sure there may be more companies dealing with these kinds of devices but this should give you information on the possibilities.
