While that is true with some products, if you take the time to read the
terms of service and privacy policies, you will be well-informed as to
what you are getting yourself in to.  People shouldn't get alarmist over
perfectly good free or shareware products.  I've never experienced
spyware, spam, ads, or security threats of any kind with either Meebo or
Trillian, and I am a long-time user of both.

It's been my experience that "free" services are not
free.  The price paid in spyware, spam, banner ads and
general security would not IMO be appropriate for a
business environment...
