[Publib] Care and Feeding of a Card Catalog

I have a fifties-era blond wood card catalog (not too huge though!) that I
purchased from an area public library. I have it in my dining room and it
is my ‘bar’ so to speak. The drawers are perfect size for storing a quart
size of liquor (I think that’s the 150 ml size now???) But I don’t have
EVERY drawer filled that way. I store candles, napkins, flashlights and
other odds and ends in the drawers.

Everyone that comes to my house comments on it and how fun it is.

There is a company I’ve seen at conferences that take them and cuts the legs
down and make them into end and coffee tables. They are cool but pricey!

Along the same topic
does anyone have clever uses for one? I inherited a
card catalog, but the drawers remain empty while I try to decide what to do
with them! Any ideas? I thought about storing jewelry, but I don’t want it
in the bedroom
.

Hello all!

I lucked out at an estate sale and was able to purchase an antique oak card
catalog. The enterprising former owner had even constructed little
cardboard surrounds for each drawer, so the bits and pieces don't fall
through the slats cut down the middle.

So, what are the best materials/formulas to use when cleaning and preserving
the wood? I'm thinking that good ol' Pledge is fine enough for my
circa-2000 dining room set, but not for the catalog, which has become the
centerpiece of our house.

Thanks!

Michelle
