[Publib] recommendations requested : graphic novels

Fifteen or so years ago, when the film of "Sarah, Plain and Tall" was on
television, a patron came into the library looking for the book. When I
started to lead her back to the children's section, she decided she didn't
want the book if it was a kids book, turned on her heel, and exited the
library. I was reduced to calling after her receding figure: "A good book is a
good book." I meant it with all my heart. Didn't work. Lost her.

This morning I was late to work because I had to finish reading Alison
Bechdel's _Fun Home_ before I could start moving. It's the first graphic novel
(actually in this case a memoir) that I've read as READER rather than just
flipped through because professionally I oughta know something about this
format. As I closed the book, I said out loud, "Wow. Wow. Wow."

Please would some of you who know something about the field of graphic novels
recommend me some more Really Good Books (one wow or two wows good enough)
that are graphic novels. Now that my eyes are open, I want to read more. Not
'what the library ought to have,' please; what might knock the socks off
Miriam-the-reader is what I want. (I'll take care of the library as I learn
more.) Thanks.

Reading all the time, and the patrons always benefit in the end,
