My objection to the Garrison Keillor skits is simple .... they're aren't
funny. Not because they are based on a stereotype; they just go on and
on and on without any good jokes in them. Boring. Let's have some more
Unitarian jokes!
He is actually a fan of libraries, as far as I can tell, even though he
does like to poke fun at our stereotype (I think he pokes fun at as many
stereotypes as possible). See:

And while we're at it....anyone else put off by Garrison Keillor's
representation of librarians in that skit he does on Prairie Home
Companion?
Can't recall the name of the ongoing series....it's "something,
Reference
Librarian" and she's portrayed mostly as an uptight geeky shssing
stereotype.

Subject: [Publib] casting director with their head on backwards
So Lions Gate is filming a scene for their SciFi channel series The
Lost
Room
in our Southwest Room. The parking lot is full of equipment, the
building is
full of guys who look like they belong in California. (Though in fact
the
governor has lured LionsGate to base itself in Albuquerque, which is
probably
why the City decided we must play host to them.)
This would be only inconvenient for the patrons, and both disruptive
and
entertaining for us, except YOU SHOULD SEE THE ACTRESS THEY'VE GOT
PLAYING
THE LIBRARIAN. She is about 75, greyhaired, frail, and plainly grumpy.
She's
presently sitting in the Magazine Room wearing sensible clothes and
waiting
for her call, and I gotta tell you, we are really really pissed off at
this
casting decision. I mean, they coulda gotten someone who looks like...
almost
any one of us... instead.
The locations guy says the character is not a librarian but an
archivist.
This is supposed to assuage our irritation at being stereotyped. He
tells us
that according to the script her name is Mabel.
