Please pardon the cross-posting:

The days of book groups where the librarian picked the
title and everyone read it and came to the library to
discuss it, are over.

As our local communities diversify, and the global
village expands, libraries are looking at the book
group model, and coming up with new and inventive ways
of presenting this time-tested treasure.

Does your library offer a different twist on book
groups? Perhaps you offer book groups for Fathers &
Sons? Mothers & Daughters? Do you have a foreign
language book group? Perhaps you offer an online chat
discussion, or a author facilitated discussion? Maybe
you are using technology (film, audio, etc) to move
your book clubs in new directions.

If your library is offering an innovative book club,
PUBLIC LIBRARIES would like to hear about it.

I am currently seeking essays for the March/April
PERSPECTIVES column. The column typically contains
4-5 essays of approximately 1,000 words in length.
The deadline to be considered for inclusion is October
20th. There is no pay offered, but participants whose
essays are included receive two free copies of the
issue in which their work appears.

Please send questions or submissions to me at
nhill at mvlc.org

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving
safely in an attractive and well preserved body , but rather to skid in
sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body
thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: Whoa....what a ride"
