I am also a student at Southern Connecticut State University. I'm starting my last year of online classes. While I agree that there are a lot of advantages, please also note that it is a very different way of learning. Everything is in writing and it is so easy to misread or skip something important. Also, you have to attend every unit, no missing the occasional class like onsite courses. The last downfall is that they recommend that you spend at least 12 hours a week per class on course work, which can be very difficult to manage on top of a full time job.

That being said, I think online was still the best choice for me. I've managed to do well in my courses while working full time and I have improved my reading and computer skills every semester. I actually find it very fun, but it is an acquired taste!

  Thanks!

I subscribed to this list as part of a class assignment and because I'd like to work in a Public library when I graduate. There are a lot of benefits to the online degree program at SCSU. The entire degree can be earned online and the flexible schedule can't be beat (I also work full-time). I really enjoy the online format and I'm also taking advantage of a new "hybrid" format, which includes 4 optional class meetings throughout the semester. I'd reccommend the prgram at SCSU. Hi:
I have a very successful career owning my own business in new media
marketing and am a very busy mother as well right now. I have an MA
in education and a BA in Psychology from UC Berkeley.

However, my dream has always been to one day be a reference
librarian--like the people at the NYPL who get calls from all over
the world and need to answer the question within 5 minutes. I do not
envision being able to fill that role for the next 10 years, however
I would like to be prepared for it.

I was thinking that perhaps I could do an online MA over the next few
years so that I would at least have the credentials (if not the exact
experience) to apply for my desired job in the future.

Can you advise first of all if this seems like a good idea (v.
waiting and then going back to an on-campus school) and if so, what
are the most highly respected programs that also offer distance options?

Thank you in advance.

S
