When our new building opened three years ago, our Friends held a
"preview party", and we had a thank you party for government officials,
the architects, contractors, and others who were involved in the
project.  We also had a party for the staff and their families.  It was
a thoroughly exhausting week or two, but well worth it.  As I recall,
the Friends raised quite a bit of money with their party.  Getting to
see the inside of the new library was a big draw.  They served wine and
hors d'oeuvres in the meeting rooms and had a jazz combo in the lobby. 
Staff provided guided tours at regular intervals.  The two parties we
hosted were similar, except that we had a full buffet meal for the staff
and their families.
