Hi all,

I have a patron who is looking for a children's chapter book read to
her back in the late 1970's or early 1980's about a monkey who is
befriended by a fox. She remembers that the fox had to climb a tree
to win a race of some sort and used some tool (nails?) that she held
in her paws in order to be able to climb.

Anybody recognize the story?
