[Publib] reference staffing - on call

Hi
   We currently have 2 people on our reference desk for all our hours of
service.  We are going be evaluating our peaks and low of demand, which
might mean we go with one person at times.

   Does anyone do solo desk staff with someone on call?  How do you handle
that?  (Our offices and desk are on different floors.)  What works well
about it and what doesn't?
