[Publib] Online Ref Desk Schedule???

Once again, let me put in a plug for Schedule 3W. We use it to schedule
all our public service desks, and they have an internet version available.
(We don't use this, as we host this program on our networked drive.) This
program is so easy to use, and any staff member can look up their schedule
from any library staff computer. It uses color coding, and I usually print
it out as well.

The costs is peanuts - less than any other comparable product, and it is
well worth your review time to investigate.

Contact me directly if you want to know more about it.

I have researched this very concept many times, hoping each time to come
up with a different answer. The conclusion that I've come to each time,
unfortunately, is that no adequate solution exists at _any_ price. I'm
hoping that someone out there has found something that I've not been
able to find, preferably something that interfaces with MS
Exchange/Outlook.

What we use at our library our simple, shared MS Word documents,
although I think that Excel would be a much better choice if starting
from scratch. I've developed a home grown solution for posting and
calculating working hours (which has been in beta for the last year or
so), but the difficulty of making it work for desk schedules as well has
just seemed a bridge to far (not enough time to make it work).

Good luck, and let us know if you find anything that works.

Subject: [Publib] Online Ref Desk Schedule???

Please excuse cross-posting.

Boss wants us to come up with an online version of the ref desk schedule
that everyone pores over each morning in print.

I know there are many options (Excel, Google or Yahoo!
calendars, proprietary scheduling $oftware). Any suggestions?

It would have to be fairly easy to use and update and accommodate as
many as six different service points at any given time.

We appreciate your help!

-M!
