Hello PubLib,

I am giving a brief talk at the California Library Association convention on
going back to school for another degree beyond the MLS/MLIS. I went for a
Masters in Public Administration, but I also want to address other degrees
of use in the public library world for specialty work, management, or any
other reason. I need to stay in the world of public libraries, not academic
where subject degrees are common or are a tenure requirement.

I would love to hear from anyone about the pros and cons of going back for
another degree. What degree did you get? Was it useful immediately or was
it for a possible promotion? Did it translate into a promotion? What did
you consider when you decided? What did you gain? What did you give up?
Was it worth it?

You can write to me separately (htheyer at torrnet.com
<mailto:htheyer at torrnet.com> ) or to the list, and I'll be happy to post my
results to the list without names attached, so you can remain anonymous if
your school was a bad experience.

Thanks!

Hillary Theyer
