[Publib] Carpeting Questions

Hi, all,

Our two branch libraries in McAllen, TX have a budget from our municipality
for new carpeting. Both branches are about 11,000 square feet, but approx.
1000 of those square feet are tiled (in the foyer & bathrooms). The
branches are built as one giant room affairs, with vaulted ceilings that
echo every noise and nuance. The current carpeting is wall-to-wall, a very
cheap grade with almost no padding that has offered little to no resistence
to stains.

What have your experiences been with carpet squares vs. wall-to-wall?
What's the best way to secure carpeting where the tiling will meet the
carpeting?
Is there a best library grade for traffic and for sound?
What's a comfortable cushion width?

Please share your library carpeting experience with me. If this topic has
been done to death recently (I'm new to the list), feel free to email me
separate from the list.

Muchas gracias from South Texas,
                                        Kathleen
