There is always "the rest of the story."  The library might have been
discarding duplicate copies.

I felt she was a little hard on libraries, and wrote a message pointing
out that library space is finite, and we either need to build larger
libraries or go digital. I added that a quick search in Worldcat.org
turned up at least 5,000 copies of books that included "Pale Horse, Pale
Rider." 

Wish I'd seen this earlier!
