[Publib] Compensation for accrued sick leave

One organization that I used to work for offered "paid time off." This
was 25 days per year, instead of the 13 vacation days and 12 sick days
offered by most employers. We could do what we wanted to with it, and I
assume that there was a ceiling to accrued time, but can't remember
what that was. One of the smaller offices would allow the employee to
cash in unused hours (up to a certain amount) once a year and receive a
check. They did this in November, and the extra cash sure came in
handy during that time of year. Like others have said, this didn't
punish those who call in sick often, but it did reward those of us who
didn't. I don't recall noticing lots of employees coming to work sick
in order to "cash in" in November. It was more of a reward for those
who come to work when scheduled.
