Personally I wouldn't have a problem with it if it were done in a situation
such as a gift shop. As long as purchasing a mug, sweatshirt, etc., is a
choice and not an expectation for the patron, I think it would be ok. It
would be nice if you could work out a percentage for the library to help
defray the cost of the space that city merchandise is taking up.

Now that weve beaten the library card horse into a coma...;-)
heres another library ethics question.
What does the group think about a library being asked to actively sell
merchandise for the city that they are part of. Im not talking about
selling items to raise money for the library, but rather to make money for
the city. This seems to go against our mission of free services and Im
being asked to do this and its making me very uncomfortable. What do the
rest of you think? Am I making something out of nothing?
