[Publib] Cold laminator

One of the major advantages of the cold laminator is that it is
portable. If I am working on something that needs to be laminated and I
am needed at the reference desk, I can take it to the desk and laminate
in between patrons. It's very lightweight. You obviously don't need to
turn it on, so it's ready whenever you are, and you don't have to worry
about accidentally leaving it on overnight! It looks as good as a heated
laminator job.

It's best for smaller projects-laminating nametags, cut outs for your
storyboard/flannel board, bulletin board decorations, etc. If I need to
laminate a poster, I need the heated laminator. It can only handle one
type of thickness-you can't adjust it as you could with a heated
laminator.

A small disadvantage is that it is manual-you are the one turning the
machine. If you have a lot of things to laminate, this may get tiresome.
However, I've laminated 50 items at a sitting, and it never bothered me
physically. On the other hand, you can only fit a few things at a
time-the most I can manage is about 3-4 across depending on the size
(I'm usually using diecut shapes). So you put your 3-4 items, crank the
handle about 2-3 times, cut the film with the blade in the back, and you
are done.

This is the one we have:

We only have a heated laminator in our library. What are the advantages
of using the cold laminator? Is it worth getting one? Any disadvantages?
Does it work as well as the heated one?

THANKS!!!

Marie
