[Publib] Collection Development question

Hi all,

I have been debating with my staff about how to deal with fiction
books in a series. We base our purchase decisions on Publishers
Weekly and/or other lists of best-sellers, and we often find a book
that is number 10 or higher in a series hits the lists, but we don't
have any of the earlier books. We have an active ILL system, so we
can get the earlier books, but I am wondering if it would be
worthwhile to at least purchase the first one or two titles before
putting out a new book in a series. I am thinking about series like
Laurell Hamilton or Christine Feehan write. We are also a small
library with limited space and budget, so purchasing the entire
series is not an option.

I appreciate any ideas you care to share.

Thanks!
